Why you should review your website regularly

How long has it been since you last looked at your website? I mean really looked at it? How long since you’ve spent some time checking and reviewing the content?

Checking contact details are up to date? Checking that all the links still work? Thinking about what new information you could add to bring in more customers?

Weeks? Months? Years?

As a web design and development business we see it all too often. We create a website for a business, they put in many hours, we put in many hours. It goes live. And then nothing.

Your website is a powerful sales tool. By keeping your information up to date, adding new articles about your products or service and your industry you’re giving your customers a reason to call you (instead of the other guy).

A website is more than just a piece of furniture, it’s like an employee of your business. To get it working well for you, you need to feed it (great content) and make sure it’s happy (analyse performance).

Here are few quick reasons why you should be reviewing and doing maintenance work to your website on a regular basis.

1. To ensure that your company information is up to date

Have you had staff leave or new staff come on board? Have your services or prices changed? Are your contact details still accurate? Does your email form still work? The first point of contact for many new clients will be your website. Put your best foot forward and ensure that they’re getting the most up to date information.

2. Updating your website can help your search ranking

How long since you’ve checked where you’re ranking in Google? If its been a while your ranking may have dropped. New and targeted content can help improve your ranking and provide valuable information to your visitors. 3. Adding new content can help get return visitors

Does your website get return traffic? By having engaging and thoughtful content and articles on your website you can encourage visitors back to see the new info. This keeps you top of mind when they’re ready to buy.

4. Take advantage of special holiday

Do you have a Christmas special? Now is a great time to get it on your website. Why not add it to your email signature as well? There are many things you can do to extend your reach through out the year. Christmas time is just one example.

5. Keep your cms and plugins up to date

Keeping your cms and plugins up to date ensures that your site is secure. No website is 100% safe from hacking. Checking that your software is up to date helps keep hackers out by patching the latest known security threats.

Regular maintenance to your website ensures that it doesn’t get stale or provide incorrect information. You don’t want your customers going else where just because of an old phone number on your website do you?

By regularly reviewing and maintaining your website you have the opportunity to engage your visitors further.
